{"id":1508,"date":"2010-01-27T09:00:09","date_gmt":"2010-01-27T17:00:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.carmenelectrode.com\/?p=1508"},"modified":"2010-01-04T10:19:45","modified_gmt":"2010-01-04T18:19:45","slug":"respect-the-crawfish","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.arc-zone.com\/carmenelectrode\/2010\/01\/27\/respect-the-crawfish\/","title":{"rendered":"Respect the Crawfish!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve heard of method actors delving deeply into a part, but method welders?\u00a0 Could be!\u00a0 While Joseph Jilbert was welding his latest sculpture, a 16 foot tall crawfish, he ate and studied the crustacean for two weeks straight as preparation!<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Boiled, fried or welded<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>By Jeff Moore \u2022 For the Daily World \u2022 January 3, 2010<\/p>\n<p>When roving artist Joseph Jilbert landed in the Crawfish Capital of the World, he found an obvious subject for his larger-than-life sculptures.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1509\" title=\"bilde\" src=\"\/blog\/carmenelectrode\/wp-content\/uploads\/bilde1-189x300.jpg\" alt=\"bilde\" width=\"189\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.arc-zone.com\/carmenelectrode\/wp-content\/uploads\/bilde1-189x300.jpg 189w, https:\/\/blog.arc-zone.com\/carmenelectrode\/wp-content\/uploads\/bilde1.jpg 379w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 189px) 100vw, 189px\" \/>Jilbert recently unveiled the product of that inspiration \u2014<br \/>\na 16-foot crawfish made of recycled scrap metal.<\/p>\n<p>Dubbed Le Clarkii, for the crawfish&#8217;s scientific name, Procambrus Clarkii, the towering decapod is currently on display at Louisiana Purchases in Breaux Bridge.<\/p>\n<p>Jilbert said the underbelly of the crawfish was made from old tractor parts, while the shell is made of parts from an old sugar-cane factory. The sculpture weighs in at a hefty 4,500 pounds.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s more intense than any sculpture I&#8217;ve ever done,&#8221; said Jilbert, who ate and studied crawfish for two weeks straight while creating the sculpture. &#8220;I&#8217;ve gained a lot of respect for crawfish.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Jilbert plans to eventually sell the crawfish and has several potential buyers lined up.<\/p>\n<p>His next creation?
