{"id":2045,"date":"2010-10-18T10:46:28","date_gmt":"2010-10-18T18:46:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.carmenelectrode.com\/?p=2045"},"modified":"2010-10-15T10:53:17","modified_gmt":"2010-10-15T18:53:17","slug":"american-welding-society-new-mexico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.arc-zone.com\/carmenelectrode\/2010\/10\/18\/american-welding-society-new-mexico\/","title":{"rendered":"American Welding Society : New Mexico"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Recently I had the opportunity to attend the AWS New Mexico chapter meeting, which was held at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnm.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">Central New Mexico Community College (CNM)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/blog\/carmenelectrode\/wp-content\/uploads\/ulibarri.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-2046\" style=\"margin: 10px;\" title=\"Robert Ulibarri, CNM \" src=\"\/blog\/carmenelectrode\/wp-content\/uploads\/ulibarri.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"245\" height=\"238\" \/><\/a>In addition to the hamburgers and hot dogs cooked up by the college&#8217;s student chapter of AWS, another big draw of the evening was the Blacksmithing demo by Robert Ulibarri (pictured, right)\u00a0from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnm.edu\/depts\/at\/programs\/metals\/welding\/\" target=\"_blank\">CNM&#8217;s welding technology program<\/a>. \u00a0He \u00a0also serves as the faculty advisor for the CNM Student chapter of the AWS and I&#8217;ll be doing a profile and tour of their welding program soon. \u00a0On video.<\/p>\n<p>I had big plans to video tape the demo, but alas my batteries failed. \u00a0And I had neglected to bring extras. \u00a0So instead of a demo of red hot glowing iron, Robert hammering out some horse shoes, sparks flying &#8230; \u00a0all I got was 13 seconds of intro and this screen capture.<\/p>\n<p>I met several of the AWS members, representing Los Alamos National Labs, Sandia National Labs and Matheson Gas to name a few.<\/p>\n<p>I also learned about the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aws.org\/w\/a\/foundation\/district_scholarships.html\" target=\"_blank\">scholarship opportunities that the American Welding Society offers<\/a>&#8212; \u00a0on many levels&#8211; from local district \u00a0scholarships to international \u00a0scholarships. It&#8217;s clear the AWS is committed to offering opportunities to students worldwide!<\/p>\n<p>New this year is the opportunity to apply scholarship funds to two-year programs. \u00a0 NOTE: \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.aws.org\/w\/a\/foundation\/district_scholarships.html\" target=\"_blank\">Applications are due March 1 for district scholarships<\/a>. \u00a0In addition to filling out the application, you&#8217;ll need to get together your transcripts, a financial aid statement, and write a Personal Statement outlining your educational and career objectives. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aws.org\/w\/a\/foundation\/national_scholarships.html\" target=\"_blank\"> Other AWS sponsored scholarships<\/a> may have additional requirements such as letters of recommendations, so plan ahead!<\/p>\n<p>Also new this year for the Albuquerque section is a scholarship funded by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mathesongas.com\/index.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Matheson<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>So if you&#8217;re interested in a career in welding, you may want to check out the opportunities offered through your own local American Welding Society Chapter, and maybe even score a scholarship.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Recently I had the opportunity to attend the AWS New Mexico chapter meeting, which was [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":9,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_monsterinsights_skip_tracking":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_active":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_note":"","_monsterinsights_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[47,27],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-2045","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-welding-education","category-welding-industry-news","entry","fw-tab-6 fw-tabr-4"],"aioseo_notices":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.4 -
