{"id":2380,"date":"2012-05-29T13:04:33","date_gmt":"2012-05-29T21:04:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.arc-zone.com\/blog\/carmenelectrode\/?p=2380"},"modified":"2012-05-30T08:37:25","modified_gmt":"2012-05-30T16:37:25","slug":"rosie-the-riveter-visitor-center-opens","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.arc-zone.com\/carmenelectrode\/2012\/05\/29\/rosie-the-riveter-visitor-center-opens\/","title":{"rendered":"Rosie the Riveter Visitor Center Opens"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.arc-zone.com\/carmenelectrode\/wp-content\/uploads\/Rosie-Center-Header.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-2392\" title=\"Rosie Center Header\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.arc-zone.com\/carmenelectrode\/wp-content\/uploads\/Rosie-Center-Header.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"634\" height=\"160\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.arc-zone.com\/carmenelectrode\/wp-content\/uploads\/Rosie-Center-Header.jpg 960w, https:\/\/blog.arc-zone.com\/carmenelectrode\/wp-content\/uploads\/Rosie-Center-Header-300x75.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 634px) 100vw, 634px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re a fan of Rosie the Riveter and plan on being in the Bay Area&#8230; \u00a0the long awaited <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nps.gov\/rori\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Visitor Education Ceter at the Rosie the Riveter\/WWII Home Front National Historic Park<\/a> opened \u00a0its doors to the public in a grand celebration on Saturday, May 26, 2012.<\/p>\n<p>From the official blessing and singing of the Star Spangled Banner at 10:00am to the ribbon cutting for the new Bay Trail wayside signs at the historic shipyard, and park ranger led tours, there were be programs for visitors of all ages.<\/p>\n<p>Curators from the Cal Berkeley Regional Oral History Office were on hand to meet candidates for the <a href=\"http:\/\/bancroft.berkeley.edu\/ROHO\/projects\/rosie\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">Oral History of the WWII Home Front project<\/a>. Some of these interviews are posted online, and if you&#8217;re a die hard\u00a0Rosie fan, you&#8217;ll want to check them out. Here&#8217;s an excerpt:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/DW9Hd9rWCh8\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The new Rosie the Riveter Visitor Center education is located in the historic \u201cOil House\u201d at 1414 Harbour Way South, suite 3000, Richmond, CA 94804.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.arc-zone.com\/carmenelectrode\/wp-content\/uploads\/Rosie-Center-Picture.bmp\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-2393\" title=\"Rosie Center Picture\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.arc-zone.com\/carmenelectrode\/wp-content\/uploads\/Rosie-Center-Picture.bmp\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The building\u2019s restoration was made possible by a\u00a0public\/private partnership between the National Park Service, the City of Richmond, and Orton Development Inc. Marcy Wong Donn Logan Architects and Dalzell Corporation were responsible for the actual design and restoration\/construction work. This architectural team has\u00a0won a number of awards for the restoration of the adjacent Ford Assembly Building complex.<\/p>\n<p>Rosie the Riveter\/WWII Home Front National Historical Park was established in 2000 to preserve and interpret the stories and sites of our nation&#8217;s home front response to World War II.
