The Metal Mashup: January Vol.2 – 2019

Jan 2019: SAVE TIME AND MONEY WITH THIS EDITION’S NEW PRODUCTS, NEW DEALS, AND TOP BRANDS!

GO WITH THE FLOW

Welding is all about precision but being precise doesn’t stop at the angle of your ground tungsten or how well you laid your bead, it extends as far as gas flow. With a dual flowmeter/regulator, you can accurately regulate the flow of welding gases to two separate welding processes from a single gas cylinder. It’s easy to adjust and engineered for long trouble-free performance.
And now with the Joe Welder Signature Series Flowmeter Kits, you can save money while saving precious welding gas. The JW Flowmeter kits include the primary gas supply hose and secondary purge gas hoses with quick-disconnect fittings, as well as a brass plug with chain leash to cap off the unused gas port

HONORING THE KING

Welding students at San Diego Continuing Education (SDCE) honored Martin Luther King Junior by showing off their newly found welding skills. Using MIG, TIG, and Stick welding, they built a 700 pound steel sculpture which was showcased during San Diego’s annual Martin Luther King Jr Day parade. Instructor Mike Bradbury says, “This project has really taught them to work together.”
The students at SDCE not only learn the basic skills of welding but also project management and leadership skills. They are preparing for a career in the trades industry which some believe is being overtaken by robots. Bob Pyle, SDCE instructor reassures his students, “Robotics have been with us for years. They’re not a threat to human being welding at this point. We still need people who are able to maneuver in tight areas and manual welding. There’s still a huge need for that.”

#WELDLIKEAPRO

Meet Madison Ervin, a classic car restorer who has a TV commercial to thank for her new & favorite career choice.
Before enrolling herself into the Tulsa Welding School, @maddieceph  was attending cosmetology school. She recalls, “I saw a commercial on TV, went and toured the school, and signed up immediately. I loved every second of school and knew right away that was what I was supposed to be doing.” One of Madison’s favorite things about working with metal is how she can fab something new out of old, rusted pieces.
When there’s a project she’s having trouble with, she turns to her boss Shaun Kiddy who she says is her mentor, adding, “I can come to him with any questions or what’s the best way to tackle something and he shows me the best solution and explains WHY.”
