A little while back we posted a brief article on TIG welding aluminum. That article garnered the attention of the folks over at The Fabricator, and their sister publication Practical Welding Today who asked if we would like to expand on that and write a more comprehensive article on TIG welding aluminum. We took them up on the offer, and the article will be published in the March/April issue of Practical Welding Today.
In our research we discovered that not only is aluminum one of the most abundant elements, it’s especially popular right now for a variety of reasons including the fact that it is utilized in so many industries because it’s lightweight and strong. In fact, along with their 4th quarter earnings report Alcoa, the world’s leading aluminum producer, forecast a 7% growth in demand for 2013.
Now we’re not going to give away all the details on our article, but here’s a sneak peek at some of the photos we included:

We’re not selling that helmet, but if you need a welding helmet, a TIG welding torch, a PRO accessory kit for your TIG torch, a brass or stainless steel scratch brush, a tungsten grinder (not to mention the tungsten!) We’ve got you covered!

The article covers everything from prepping your base metal, setting up your welding machine, tungsten–selection and preparation, and welding gas. Most of all, remember that welding aluminum may be challenging, but that’s what makes it fun. Start by practicing on flat coupons, and as you get your beads consistent, move up to lap, but, and t-joints to master your torch and puddle control… and most of all Enjoy!
We’ll let you know when the article is published… but in the meantime, if you don’t have a subscription to this trade magazine, you should consider signing up. Both The Fabricator and Practical Welding Today are run by the Fabricator’s and Manufacturers Association along with several other publications: Stamping Journal, Tube and Pipe Journal, Green Manufacturer, and Canadian Industrial Machinery. These publications will keep you up-to-date on industry trends and technologies and subscriptions are free to qualified persons working in industry. Find out more online.
